What has become of Fairmont? I have to say that I am so disappointed at what Fairmont has become. There are literally no specialists at Mayo anymore--no opthalmologists, no dermatologists, no urologists, no urgent care anymore, now threats of $50 to have a "complex" verbal conversation? What does that mean? I don't understand what the heck is going on here. I know many say all is well. There is no place to shop other than other private stores geared toward young adults, teenagers or other adults still in the workplace. Retired folks need to go to Walmart or drive to Mankato. Thoughts on the community center To the Editor: Since my graduation from Fairmont High school I have been receiving the Sentinel newspaper following the happenings in Fairmont. My mother still lives there as do several of my siblings. I have been following with great interest the bantering back and forth regarding the Community Center being proposed for Fairmont. I have to agree with the gentleman, who in a letter to the editor, wrote about what he thought was more important for the Fairmont area. Government closure over reducing US debt To the Editor: Again, the Republicans are planning to close the government to force spending reductions that will bring down the budget deficit. I agree with deficit reduction and eliminating government waste. Here is a guiding principle that could help Republicans and Democrats negotiate a bi-partisan agreement that is good for the country. Match every $1 in spending reduction that Republicans propose with $2 increase in taxes half of which goes directly to reduce the deficit. Save the Pool To the Editor: Many people are not aware of the numerous excellent opportunities at the Sherburn Community Pool. I want to share with you these benefits in hopes that you will gain a better understanding of how important the pool is to our community and the surrounding area. People of all ages and a variety of needs use the pool for social interaction, physical fitness, and therapy/rehab. Aquatic Park great for the community To the Editor: Thank you to our Fairmont Aquatic Park. I enjoyed every aquacise and deep-water class. All the staff is helpful, polite and hardworking. It is great to have so many people attend all the classes and enjoy our great aquatic park. I brought many of my family and friends again this year. Citizens 4 A Strong Fairmont To the Editor: At the city council meeting on Monday, Aug. 14, Councilor Britney Kawecki from Ward 2, asked Citizens 4 A Strong Fairmont how we are involved in the City and what we are doing to support it. We welcomed the opportunity to describe ourselves more thoroughly in this letter. We are taxpaying citizens. Nearly half of the property taxes each of us pays goes to the City of Fairmont to fund the fire and police departments, the water treatment plant, the street department, storm water management and all the other city functions.
