Thoughts on the community center

To the Editor:

Since my graduation from Fairmont High school I have been receiving the Sentinel newspaper following the happenings in Fairmont. My mother still lives there as do several of my siblings.

I have been following with great interest the bantering back and forth regarding the Community Center being proposed for Fairmont. I have to agree with the gentleman, who in a letter to the editor, wrote about what he thought was more important for the Fairmont area. I myself think jobs are important to bring people in as well as good healthcare system and a good school system. I don’t think I would necessarily move to any town just because they had a community center.

Not sure where the community center fits in. But my point in this letter is that if those of you who are in favor of spending the money are so sure you have the majority support then why not put it to the vote of the people and find out for sure. If you win then go ahead with your plans. If not then move on to improving what you have, supporting the businesses you have, the school system and your healthcare system.

You have so much to offer right now I would hate for you to start losing it all. With the economy the way it is I would bet a number of people would perhaps choose to move because of the high taxes that may be in their futures.

I know of a small town that would welcome an influx of new citizens.

Just my thoughts,

Vicki (McMurtry) Boeckman
