Recent editorials off base To the Editor: Recent opinions submitted to the Sentinel are completely off-base and out-of-touch. In response to Mr. Bradley’s recent piece, he writes as though he is some sort of “father” to Fairmont, and is clearly voicing his disapproval of recent behavior by scolding us all for our transgressions. Mr. Bradley seems to think that because Mr. Lubenow was defeated in a previous election that he is therefore never allowed to hold office ever again. He alleges that councilors Kawecki and Maynard “overturned the vote of Ward 3’s citizens.” Wrong. ...

Why aren’t teeth covered under health care insurance? To the editor: Why aren’t your teeth covered under your general health care insurance? Why is there a separate policy for teeth? Why a separate policy for eyes? Aren’t your eyes and your teeth part of your body? So why do I pay three separate premiums for health care insurance? Why are dental plans limited to a $2,000 cap? My regular health care does not have a cap. The answer? Profits. Health care is a for-profit industry. It is not out to care for the well-being of the individual. Community Center is a Disaster to Fairmont To the Editor: Certainly city council members from the past and the present disrupted people’s lives and this community. They have way too much power. I’m not talking about all of them, past and present. Wayne Hasek has always looked out after the taxpayers money and concerns. Thank you for all your hard work and efforts. Did Personal Interests Overturn Election Vote? To the Editor: CONFLICT OF INTEREST: A conflict of interest is defined as a conflict between a person’s public obligations and private interests. When a conflict of interest arises, the person involved is unable to perform his or her duties in a suitable and proper manner. During the City Council meeting on Jan. 23, Councilor Wayne Hasek, recused himself from a City Council vote to hire a lobbying firm which employed his daughter. Coming and Going of our Spring Waterfowl To the Editor: From driving around the countryside within the past few weeks you’ve no doubt noticed the abundance of waterfowl. Personally, I’ve seen thousands of Canadian geese, snow geese, and ducks gathered in the puddles of crop fields and flying throughout the countryside. The snow melt combined with the frost dissipating has caused numerous puddles for waterfowl to occupy. It really is a beautiful sight to see wildlife using habitat. Scouts active in local communities To the Editor: Each year the Twin Valley Council Boy Scouts of America conducts a “Scouting for Food” campaign to collect food for local food shelves. This year, Scouts and Scouters collected 51,373 pounds of food for 20 different food shelves across south central Minnesota. Scouting for Food is Scouting’s largest “good turn” and has a duel purpose. 1) To collect much need food to support local food shelves that help those with a food insecurity. 2) To teach our Scouts about participating citizenship, to “Do a Good Turn Daily” and put ...
