FAIRMONT– Stick out those pinkies and take a big sip! The Women of Today are hosting a tea party at 9am, Saturday, April 6th, at the Red Rock Center for the Arts in Fairmont.

The CreativiTea event is open to all families seeking a morning of enjoyment. Women of Today will provide yogurt parfaits, danishes, tea, coffee, juice and more delectable goods for breakfast. Additionally, the organization will bring a diversity of crafts to keep everyone entertained. The agenda includes (but not limited to) door-prizes, hairdos, extensions, nail art, temporary tattoos and a photobooth.

Kaitlin Bormann is a member of Women of Today. During her time as an eager member of the group, she and the fellow members of Women of Today have completed numerous contributions for the community.

“We’re a group of ladies of all ages. We like to do service projects together, and we like learning new things. Whether we attend classes with others, or host our own [events] if we have a unique skill to share,” said Bormann. “People have such different backgrounds. There’s people in their twenties, and people in their seventies. It’s fun to be together and work together. We make the group what we want it to be.”

Bormann explained that anyone with a passionate idea can present it to the group. Women of Today not only value support, but the ability to learn something new….especially together.

Women of Today has worked with Heaven’s Table Food Shelf’s backpack program, one of their many notable contributions to the Fairmont community and schools. The program packs meals for families in need so they may have a sustainable amount of food to eat during the weekend and holiday breaks from school. Their mission is to provide groceries to fill empty pantries so nobody goes hungry.

“The backpack program is important for us. It’s important for us to be serving the community and the county,” said Bormann.

She noted that one of the most rewarding aspects about being a member of Women of Today was seeing how she was giving back to the community of Fairmont, which the group has done tremendously.

“This is our first time doing the CreativiTea Party. Our goal is to raise funds for the backpack program. Because of our grant from the Martin County Foundation, we’re able to not worry about tickets. People can come and enjoy their time, and learn about the backpack program. They’ll learn about the impact and needs. The donation that people are able to give–we’ll share that with the backpack program.” Bormann added.

She spoke more about the impact Women of Today wanted to provoke to its attendees. The group hopes that not only do attendees have fun, but also become aware of the ways they can contribute too throughout the town of Fairmont.

“We’re hoping more people can become aware of the program and the needs of the community. Whether it’s giving money toward the program, or volunteering at Heaven’s Table… it’s important for us to care about others. If we can create awareness through a fun activity, that’s a good thing,” Borrman stated.

Support the mission, dress up and join the tea party! Though walk-ins are allowed, families planning to attend are strongly encouraged to RSVP prior to the event by April 1. Participants who RSVP will receive an additional door-prize ticket. Suggested donations are $25 for an adult and child, and an additional $5 per additional child. Women of Today is open to new members over the age of 18. The group meets once a month. Bormann encourages anyone interested in joining them to seek updates through the official Women of Today Facebook page.
