CEYLON — Today is the big day in Ceylon with the 87th annual Ceylon Community Day Auction beginning at 8:30 a.m. The auction sites are full of items to sell. There are plans for two or three rings of auctioneers. Rummage sales are happening around town too. Have fun, enjoy the fellowship with neighbors, maybe get a bargain. Please be respectful of private property and lawns, other traffic and city laws such as four-wheelers going to and from a spot and at a lower speed. There are plans for food vendors and Legends ll has geared up for visitors.

The beginning of Holy Week (before Easter) begins Sunday, and Palm Sunday special services are planned at area churches. Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon has services planned for 5:30 p.m. tonight, April 9. Their dual congregation at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Wilbert will have 9:30 a.m. Sunday services, and will have communion and a special confirmation celebration for Kellen Fritz, Andrea Mennen and Levi Stevens. Congratulations to those young people. Circle of Faith parishes may take drive through communion from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Waverly Lutheran north of Welcome or at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome this Sunday and next Sunday. On Maundy Thursday, the Circle of Faith parishes will meet for 6:30 p.m. services at Waverly Lutheran north of Welcome.

They will meet 6:30 p.m. on Good Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon. The dual congregations will meet 6:30 p.m. on Maundy Thursday at Wilbert, with a communion service, and on Good Friday they will meet 6:30 p.m. for a service of darkness at Our Savior’s in Ceylon. All area residents are welcome to join these churches for worship services.

Ceylon City Council will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, Ceylon City Hall. All members are urged to attend. There is always a time for public comments and questions at the beginning of each meeting without previous notice. St. Paul’s Lutheran LWML ladies group will meet 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at the church in Wilbert. All members are urged to attend.

St. Peter Lutheran Church’s ladies group is working on quilts during the month of April. For further information, contact Janine Rasmussen at (712) 330-3857. These ladies have done a quantity of quilts in the past and welcome anyone who would like to help.
