Funding for project approved

SHERBURN– The Sherburn City Council on Tuesday approved funding for the proposed Wastewater Improvement Project from the Clean Water Revolving Fund (loan) and the Water Infrastructure Fund (grant) for a total of $8,181,490. They discussed the eventuality that sewer user charges will probably be raised for each month starting next year and continuing through 2025. They also anticipate transferring funds from the Sewer Fund Reserves and possibly from the sewer enterprise funds. They all agreed that this project is needed.

The Shop with a Cop program was reviewed and will be held this year. The council approved a donation of $500 to the program that helps the Sherburn/Welcome Police Department share Christmas with the children and families in Martin County West School District that are in need. Officer Nicholas Smith will head the project and tentatively plans to do the shopping on Dec. 17. Names of children who are in grades kindergarten to sixth grade at MCW and would benefit from this project are needed by Officer Smith before Dec. 10th by calling (952) 292-5898 or nsmith@Sherburnwlcomepolice.org. The program was not conducted last year due to the pandemic and this year gift cards will be provided due to concerns of larger numbers of children in close proximity. Residents wishing to donate to the project can send donations to Sherburn/Welcome Police Dept., ATTN: Officer Nicholas Smith, 21 East 1st St., Sherburn, MN 56171.

Moving to other matters, the council reset the public hearing about the Municipal Liquor Store for Dec. 6 and the Truth in Taxation meeting for that date also and will have the city council meeting following those meetings on that date at 6 p.m. at Sherburn City Hall.
