Lunch and Learn today
SHERBURN– Today, Sept. 8th , there will be a Lunch and Learn session at the Senior Citizen’s Center in Sherburn sponsored by Crest beginning at 11 a.m. with a meal of Chicken ala King and apple dessert to follow. This is open to anyone in Martin County with no cost. This month’s program will be Dementia Friends which will talk about easy and effective ways to help those with dementia.
Tonight there is a BBQ and Pie Social at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dunnell from 5-7 p.m. to raise funds for steeple repair at the church. The menu will be BBQ, Hot Dogs, Beans, Potato Salad, Chips, Ice Cream, Watermelon, and beverages. There will be a selection of pies available for purchase. There is a handicapped accessible entrance at the north basement door. Take out is available. Cost will be a free will donation to the steeple repair with Thrivent Insurance helping with their action team funds.
There will be a Red Cross Blood Drive in Fairmont at the Holiday Inn today and tomorrow. There is a critical need for blood now so plan to give the gift of Life, Blood, to save up to three lives with each pint.
The Old Alley Quilt Shop is continuing their Sew Days classes with a Fabric Collage Class on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. There is a cost of $60 for a whole day of fun creating a fabric collage. Contact the Old Alley Quilt Shop for further information at oldalleyquiltshop.com or 764-4088.
Tomorrow is the first day of school for the elementary school. Watch for excited children getting on and off the bus. A reminder that masks are required on any school bus and the school messenger will be used to inform parents of closures and special hours so parents are to make sure their messenger address is up to date.
Friday, Sept. 10, the MCW Mavericks will have a home football game at 7 p.m. and Saturday the cross country team will have a meet. The Homecoming week will be Sept. 13-18 watch for special events such as the Senior fundraiser Chili Feed on the 18th.
Saturday, Sept. 11, is the second Saturday of the month and the Sherburn Legion will have a Steak Fry from 5-8 p.m. The menu is a choice of rib eye steak, Shrimp, or smoked Pork Chop and salad bar, baked potato and garlic toast. The cost is $17. Legion members are reminded that they will have a meeting on September 14 at 8 p.m.
The Mayo Clinic mobile unit van will be in Sherburn on September 13 and 15 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call the regular phone number 238-8500 to make an appointment and ask for the Sherburn site. The van is parked behind City Hall when it is in Sherburn every two weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays.
