Sherburn Summer Festival June 19, 20

SHERBURN — The Vacation Bible School begins today, Wednesday, June 10, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn for children in preschool and kindergarten. The Day Camp for the older children will be from July 6 to July 10. The ladies’ group LWML at St. John will meet at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, June 10. The partner church’s ladies group from Wilbert will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 11.

The CREST Lunch and Learn program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, June 10, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn, with a lunch following the program. These programs are free for Martin County senior citizens. CREST appreciates a free -will donation.

Hamburger Night will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, June 10, at the Sherburn Legion. Get a burger, salad and beans for $12. Steak Fry Night will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 13.

The Regional Worship Center in Sherburn will have Men’s Night with a meal and Bible Study at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 11.

Condolences to the families of Fred Krueger, Kent Stump, Barbara Sampson, Michael Eisenmenger and Martin Rose, who passed away recently. They will all be missed by family and friends.

Sherburn’s Summer Festival will be on Saturday, June 20. There will be city-wide rummage/garage sales. The deadline to drop off lists and addresses for the map is Monday, June 15, at Bank Midwest. The cost is $10.

The Sherburn City Council is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. on Monday, June 15, at the City Hall. There is always a time for public comments and questions at the beginning of each meeting. To be on the regular agenda, contact the City Hall at (507) 764-4491 or in person before the meeting date.

The Mayo Mobile Clinic will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, June 15, and Wednesday, June 17, near the City Hall in Sherburn. Call the appointment number at (507) 238-8500 and mention the Sherburn Clinic.

The deadline to sign up for the daytime Bus Trip to Iowa’s Plymouth Playhouse to see the comedy A Second Helping- Church Basement Ladies sequel- is Monday, June 15. They need 40 to sign up for the bus sponsored by the Friendship Club. Cost is $120 per person for the bus, lunch and matinee performance. Membership in the Friendship Club or St. John Church is not required.

The American Red Cross blood drives will be on Monday, June 15, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont, on Friday, June 19, at the American Legion in Fairmont, and on Monday, June 29, at Truman Community Hall, St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome and Trimont Covenant Church. Blood is needed every two seconds in the United States. The supply is low now, so give if you are eligible (ages 16 and up, weigh 110 or more and in good health). Thank you. Coffee Hours will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in June at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for good fellowship around a cup of coffee and treats.

The Sherburn Library has summer programs scheduled. Each Tuesday from 2:30 to 5 p.m., they have drop-in arts and crafts events, and on Thursdays at 3:30 p.m., they plan to have a storytime for children. The 4H Adventure will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 11. It is important to keep reading skills levels up during the summer. Check out the Sherburn Library.

We are sad to hear the Old Alley Quilt Shop in Sherburn will be closing in August. It is up for sale. Maybe someone will purchase it and keep it running.

The Summer Festival will be Friday, June 19 and Saturday, 20, with the Chicken Feed (beans and sweet corn too) at the Fire Hall as a fundraiser for the Sherburn Fire Department’s Relief Association. Eat and enjoy the music of Steve Lang. The feed is from 5 to 8 p.m. and then there will be a Street Dance from 8 p.m. to midnight with KJ Sound. If you are unable to attend, a donation would be appreciated by the relief association. The Festival has many scheduled events at the City Park such as: a car and tractor show from 8 to noon; sand volleyball tournament at 9; vendor craft show 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; food stands from the Lions Club, St. John’s tacos and Rootbeer floats; a Bingo stand; inflatables for children; a Beer Garden noon to 6 p.m.; pedal pulls 2:30 to 4 p.m.; a raffle drawing at 6 p.m. for cash, tv, grill and gift cards, and of course the big parade which is at 1 p.m. There is also a dance at the Fox Lake Event Center (730 125th St.) from 7 to 11 p.m. featuring the Fat City All Stars with pork chops on a stick until gone. Plan to attend the Sherburn Festival.

Sundaes at the Park will be at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, at the Triumph Memorial Park in Trimont. Glenn Henriksen will perform. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center.

Healing Hearts Housing will have a Tie Dye Party fundraiser at noon on Sunday, June 28, at the Sherburn Community Center in Sherburn.

The Civic and Commerce Club will meet at noon on Thursday, July 2, at Bank Midwest.
