Ceylon considers Emerald Ash Borer solution
CEYLON — During the Ceylon City Council meeting on Tuesday, Kevin Njoes from Easy System Environmental Solutions presented information about the Terreplenish regenerative microbial solution for trees affected by Emerald Ash Borer disease in its first stages.
The company is part of the Easy System in Mankato. He described the solution as putting trees on steroids. The tree absorbs more water and helpful elements. Ceylon has used the injection method on seven trees in the park. He described it as insecticide and it would kill the borer. The problem is that a bird may eat the dead insecticide-filled borer and die, too. A pet may eat the dead bird and become very ill. Their solution is not an insecticide. He said it helps the trees regenerate themselves.
The council asked some questions about the process. Njoes said that he would assess the city and list the trees that were too far gone and those that may be helped. He would access the trees for free and charge $300 per tree but for the city-owned trees, it would be half ($150 per tree). He would access the trees next week and communicate with the city employees as to the number. The city is under no obligation to contract with him. City residents may also get the service when the company is in Ceylon servicing the trees owned by the city if the council approves of the contract.
The council asked more questions and approved he could access the city-owned trees and report to the city employee. One question was how long they were doing this. He said two and a half years and last year they did 3,000 trees. One of the places they used the solution was at the St. James Golf Course. The council will discuss this at the next meeting after the report is given.
