Welcome festival coming up
WELCOME — There will be a Martin County Relay for Life from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at the fairgrounds in Fairmont. The event will support cancer survivors and caregivers and remember those who have died. Due to pandemic concerns, it will be a drive-through with luminaries at eye level and a to-go meal for a donation. For more information, contact Deb Johnson at (507) 236-1882, email ethel1951@ yahoo.com or go to their Facebook page, Martin County Relay for Life. Plan now to attend.
Condolences to the families of the following Welcome residents: Bradley Post, Ralph Hilgendorf and Diane Howell. They will surely be missed.
The name of the church that joined the Circle of Faith parishes is First Lutheran Church in Trimont. Sorry for the mistake. Circle of Faith parishes should watch for service times since they are being served by an interim pastor and things change.
Welcome Summer Festival is being planned for the weekend of July 17. Fire Department Relief Association will have a chicken feed from 5-7:30 p.m. on July 16, at the Welcome Legion Hall, with Steve Lang Country Show providing musical entertainment beginning at 6 p.m. that night. The menu will be regular or mesquite flavored grilled chicken breast with fried potatoes, beans, roll, and lemonade. The cost is $10 per person. Children, 12 and under, are free with a paid adult. All proceeds will go towards the purchase of fire equipment.Plan now to attend and support the local fire department.
The plans I have heard for the Welcome Summer Festival so far are: Legion pork chop feed from 5-7 p.m. July 17 at Welcome Legion, and a street dance with the band, IV Play, from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Food vendors will be available. I assume there will be plenty of garage/rummage sales in town that weekend, but no parade. Watch for further information and plan to attend.
