CEYLON — Today is May 1. Happy May Day. One sign of summer is lawn mowing and there have been several people doing that lately. Summer doesn’t officially begin until June 20, which incidentally is Father’s Day. Ah, but Mother’s Day comes first on May 9.

Condolences to the family of Velmer Meier from the Ceylon/Wilbert area. Many will miss him.

Today there is a spring rally for the Sherburn Zone of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League at 9:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. The speaker will be from Camp Omega near Waterville, Minn. and Gifts from the Heart will be donations for the purchase of a mini van for the camp. COVID

protocols will be used. All area LWML women and anyone interested are invited to attend.

The ladies group at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon will have their monthly meeting 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. All members are urged to attend.

The legendary Rock and Roll band, “Whitesidewalls” is scheduled for a concert from 7-10 p.m. on May 8 at Legends II in Ceylon. Advance tickets are $13. Their music is from the golden era of rock and roll, doo-wop, and rockabilly. Sounds like fun.
