Woman facing drug charge

FAIRMONT — A Stewartville woman is facing a felony charge in Martin County.

Maggie Marie McDonald, 19, has been charged with drug possession in the third degree, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

At 10:47 a.m. Aug. 19, a Fairmont police officer responded to the mall in Fairmont for a welfare check regarding a woman sleeping in her vehicle with the windows rolled up.

A second officer was the first to arrive on scene and made contact with the woman, later identified as McDonald. While the officer was speaking to McDonald, the first officer observed that she would not sit still, repeatedly tossing her arms in the air and moving her legs in several different directions.

On several occasions, McDonald would throw herself back into the seat, roll her eyes back into her head and act like she was going to pass out. The first officer believed McDonald was under the influence of a controlled substance, and noticed a hypodermic needle on the center console of the vehicle.

When asked if the syringe would test positive for meth, McDonald said she did not know, but then said it probably would. The syringe tested positive for meth, and when asked if there was any more meth in the vehicle, McDonald said no. McDonald was placed under arrest.

Officers searched McDonald’s vehicle, locating a small plastic baggie containing meth. She was transported to the Martin County jail, and the transporting officer noticed a white powdery substance all over the back seat and floor of the squad vehicle where she had been seated. The substance tested positive for meth.

McDonald was informed of her rights and agreed to answer questions. She said she knew the syringe contained meth and that she had tried shooting up the night before. McDonald also admitted the meth found in the vehicle was hers, and that she had removed some meth and ate it while in the squad vehicle.

An officer then transported McDonald to the Fairmont emergency room due to her having ingested meth. McDonald was admitted into the hospital, and hospital staff found another baggie of suspected meth on her.
