‘Park Play’ features games, snacks

SHERBURN — A “Lunch and Learn” event sponsored by CREST and Temperance Lake Ridge will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Senior Citizens Center in Sherburn.

The program will feature Diana Madsen from Catholic Charities speaking about “Powerful Tools for Caregivers.”

Following the presentation, a lunch of pork tenderloin, cheesy potatoes and ice cream sundaes will be served. Donations for the lunch will help defray the cost.

Everyone in the area is invited to attend this event.

The monthly steak and shrimp supper will be 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the Sherburn American Legion. Everyone is welcome.

An open house bridal shower in honor of Haley Faber of Sherburn, bride-to-be of AJ Sowieja of Le Center, will be 1-3 p.m. Saturday at Steve and Deb Olson’s home, 551 Main St. W., Trimont. Haley’s parents are Donny and Dawn Faber of Sherburn.

“Sundaes in the Park” will be held again this summer at Triumph Park in Trimont. They begin 6 p.m. Sunday, featuring music by the Trimont Centennial Band and, of course, ice cream sundaes will be served.

Red Cross bloodmobile will be in Sherburn from 1-7 p.m. Monday at the Regional Worship Center (across from Kum & Go). If you would like to make an appointment, please call Dorothy at (507) 764-2107. Take the time or make the time to give blood if you’re able to do so. Someone, somewhere will be grateful that you did.

“Park Play” offered through Martin County West Community Education began this week for children, age 4 through sixth grade. Times are 9-11 a.m. each Tuesday in Trimont, 9-11 a.m. each Wednesday in Welcome and 9-11 a.m. each Thursday in Sherburn. Park Play continues for four consecutive weeks.

The cost is $10 per child or $3 per time they attend.

Peg Rankin is the instructor for this program, which features games, art activities and snacks.

Community Education is offering a beginners class in American sign language. This class is for all ages. Children younger than third grade must be accompanied by an adult. Classes will be held 4-5:30 p.m. June 20, 27 and July 11, 18 and 25 at MCW Elementary School in Sherburn. The instructor will be Daisy Johnson. You must register before June 14. To sign up for the class, call (507) 764-2336.

Martin County West Jr./Sr. High School office in Sherburn will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday until June 13. After that, the office will be open 7:30-11:30 a.m. every Wednesday morning.

Report cards for junior/senior high students can be picked up at the office beginning June 10. Once that office closes for the summer, report cards will be sent to the Central Office located at the elementary school in Sherburn to be distributed.

Summer school has been scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 10-14 and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 24-28. Students will have the opportunity to earn 0.5 credits in math and 0.5 credits in English. Students must attend ALL sessions in order to earn the credit.

If you plan to have a rummage sale during the Sherburn citywide sale days of June 13-15, you must get your list of items, dates and times, address, etc., along with your $10 fee to have your sale listed into the Martin County Star office before June 11.

It’s been announced that the indoor pool in Sherburn will be closed for the summer. Repairs are still ongoing and they hope to re-open the pool in September.

Congratulations to the Martin County West golf team that won the Valley Conference boys golf tournament May 29. Named all-conference were Carson Kahler, Hunter Schmidt, Dawson Weber and Mitchell Weber.

Congratulations and best of luck to MCW’s Makena Larson, who advances to the state track meet Friday and Saturday at Hamline University in St. Paul. She will compete in both the shot put and the discus after placing first in both events at the 2A section meet in Mankato.

Tuesday coffee hours for the month of June are held 8:30-10 a.m. at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn. All are welcome.
