Open Door from Mankato has chosen to work with the Martin County West Elementary School, and will provide free dental services to Martin County West students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

They will conduct dental screenings for kindergarten, third-, fourth- and fifth-graders on Jan. 16 at the Trimont school, and for first- and second-graders on Jan. 23 at the elementary school in Sherburn.

Services provided will be fluoride varnish, dental sealants (for second- and fifth-graders only), and free toothbrushes and toothpaste.

A consent form will be sent home with these eligible students. Parents must fill out the form and send it back to the school in order for their student to participate in the free screening.

If parents are not interested in this service, they should simply not return the consent form.

n

If you have a Martin County West student who may need extra help with reading skills, there is an after-school program — EMPOWER — at the school in Trimont. Students get an hour-and-a-half lesson until 4:45 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays.

Busing to Welcome and Sherburn is available.

If you’re interested in this 4- to 5-week program for your child, permission slips are at the main office at the Martin County West Elementary School in Trimont, or you may call the office and they will send a form home with your student.
