Candidate forum slated

SHERBURN — Grilled burgers with everything will be served from 6-8 p.m. tonight at Sherburn American Legion. Everyone is welcome.

There will be no school at any Martin County West Schools on Thursday and Friday because of MEA. Also due to MEA, the Martin County West football game at Redwood Valley will be played tonight rather than Friday.

Martin Luther High School in Northrop will host its 32nd annual rummage sale and bake sale this week. Hours are 4-8 p.m. Thursday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Martin County West Schools will be dismissed early at 12:15 p.m. Oct. 24 for a teacher workshop.

MCW eighth-graders will have an opportunity to attend a high-energy retreat on Oct. 26 at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn.

Granada-Huntley-East Chain School also will be taking part in this Youth Frontiers Courage Retreat.

The purpose of the retreat is to have a positive impact on the way students treat fellow classmates. It will focus on creating a more positive school community by engaging students in a variety of activities that enhance self-confidence, empathy and connectedness.

Make plans now to attend a candidate forum 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Sherburn Theatre. Sherburn Civic and Commerce Club is sponsoring this event, which will bring in several local candidates running for office so they can discuss their visions for the future and answer voters’ questions. The forum is free to the public.

Sherburn Civic and Commerce Club is asking that anyone who would like to have a table for its upcoming vendors show on Nov. 3 call Tracy Schumann soon at (507) 764-3191.

There will be a “Count Your Blessings Thanksgiving” potluck beginning 11:30 a.m. Nov. 5 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. The meal is for anyone in the community who would like to come. They ask that you please bring a dish to share for the meal. The ladies will prepare the table and help serve, while the men are asked to clean up when done.

Don’t forget to get your tickets for the Sherburn Lions Club prime rib supper that will be held Nov. 17 at the Sherburn Legion. Tickets are available from any Lions Club member.

Coffee hours for October start 8:30 a.m. each Tuesday at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn. All are welcome.
