3K Color-A-Thon slated

SHERBURN — Martin County West Music Boosters will host a 3K Color-A-Thon walk/run beginning 9 a.m. Saturday at the Elementary School in Sherburn.

The entry fee is $25. Walk-up registrations are welcome starting 8:30 a.m. on the day of the event.

Monies raised will go toward the band/choir trip to Nashville in the spring.

Everyone is welcome.

The Martin County West Maverick football team will play at home again this Friday night. Their opponent this week will be Windom. Game time is 7 p.m. in Sherburn.

A benefit for Bob Meinert, former resident of Sherburn, will be 2-7 p.m. Saturday at the Winnebago Community Center, 140 S. Main St. (Highway 169) in Winnebago.

Bob was diagnosed with stage-4 lung cancer six months ago.

There will be a meal featuring barbecues, stretch raffle and a silent auction.

Sherburn Zone Lutheran Women’s Missionary League fall rally will be Sept. 22 at Our Redeemer Church in Jackson, with a 9 a.m. registration. Coffee will begin 9:30 a.m. followed by the rally event and lunch.

Virginia Flo from Lutherans for Life will speak on “Hope for Life.” Her talk will include beginning and end of life issues.

Gifts of the Heart will be clothing protectors for the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Jackson.

Auditions for this year’s Martin County West drama department’s play “Fiddler on the Roof” will be held Sept. 17-20.

Rehearsals will begin the week of Oct. 1, with performances Nov. 16-18 at the Sherburn Theatre in Sherburn.

Biny Claussen and Dustin Oldenburg will be the directors. They need a cast of 24, plus a large ensemble. Ask and encourage your MCW junior or senior high student to consider taking part in this year’s production.

Basics of dog obedience training will be demonstrated and taught in classes that will be held 5:30-6:30 p.m. Mondays, Oct 8, 15, 22, 29 and Nov. 12. The first class will actually be Oct. 1 but do not bring your dog to this class.

Dogs must be at least 3 months old.

The instructor will be Gary Hamman.

The cost will be $60 for the six classes. The deadline to register is Sept. 26. If you’re interested, please call MCW Community Education at (507) 764-2336.

MCW Sherburn Elementary School students will have a special presentation Sept. 19. The NED Show will be at the school to talk to students about kindness, setting goals, making choices and doing their best in school. It will be a fun and entertaining show for students and staff. NED stands for Never give up, Encourage others, Do your best.

Don’t forget that coffee hours will be held 8:30-10 a.m. each Tuesday in September at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Welcome. Everyone is welcome.
