Teen facing threats charge

SHERBURN — A Welcome teen is facing felony charges in Martin County.

Layne Garrett Jagodzinske, 16, has been charged with making terroristic threats.

According to court documents:

At about 10:30 a.m. May 21, Jagodzinske was in a classroom at Martin County West High School in Sherburn when he engaged in an argument with a classmate regarding sports. The argument escalated into insults and Jagodzinske threatened to kill the classmate.

On May 22, a Martin County Sheriff’s deputy went to the high school to conduct an investigation. There, he spoke with the school principal, who provided the names of four juvenile witnesses.

All four witnesses indicated Jagodzinske’s behavior has been worsening with threats to kill or harm others. The deputy also interviewed the classmate, who said Jagodzinske told him he was going to shoot him.

The deputy took Jagodzinske to the Law Enforcement Center for questioning. A family member also was present. Jagodzinske was read his rights and said he understood them.

Jagodzinske admitted he had threatened to kill the classmate by shooting him with a shotgun. He said he knew it was wrong, and also said he has been getting into arguments often with classmates, and that they were escalating to insults and threats.

Jagodzinske was taken into custody and placed in secure detention at Prairie Lakes in Willmar.
