Party for kids set for Sunday

CEYLON — There will be a benefit pancake feed for Rachel Schafer from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at Martin County West High School in Sherburn.

Sherburn Lions will serve pancakes for a donation, and there will be a bake sale with Christmas goodies.

Rachel’s parents are Julie (Thiesse) and Phil Schafer, and her grandfather is Joel Thiesse.

There will be a vendor/craft show from 1-4 p.m. today at the Welcome Legion. There will be many crafts and vendors and registration for a gift certificate from Sterling Drug. Coffee and cookies will be available too.

Area cribbage players will meet at the Welcome Legion Hall today, beginning at 1:15 p.m. All area cribbage lovers are invited.

There will be a Christmas party for area children from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Ceylon Legion/Legends 2 Building. The Ceylon Festival Committee and other community groups will have fire truck rides, games, prizes, Santa visits and a lot of fun for area children.

On Sunday, the secret judge will be looking at the houses in town that have decorated for the Christmas season.

The City Council has decided to award three first-place awards to the house with the best traditional Christmas decorations, the house with the best display and the house with the most festive decorations. Each of those winners will get a $30 credit on their utility bill.

There also will be six honorable mention prizes awarded. These will be a utility bill credit of $10.

Coffee Lovers group meets 8:30-10 a.m. every Thursday at the Legends 2/Legion in Ceylon for good brew and good fellowship. Everyone is invited to join them.
