Sherburn Lions to host Friday supper

Sherburn Lions will be hosting a New Year’s Eve supper from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, at the Sherburn Legion Building, featuring steaks, shrimp or smoked pork chop, with baked potato, salad bar and snacks. Upcoming welding course to be offered

Fairmont Area Schools Welding Academy is offering a Saturday Academy for high school students and adults. Southern Minnesota is still experiencing a severe shortage of skilled workers, Fairmont Area Schools is committed to provide a quality learning experience for students and adults as they prepare for a skilled job in welding. They will host a 60-hour welding course to teach essential welding skills. One high school credit will be earned for students in grades 9-12. The class will be capped at 20 total welding students. Preference will be given to current high school students first. Adult enrollment is $350 for the course and a certificate of completion at the end if the student passes the welding tests. Those who take the course will develop skills in GMAW joint welding in the flat position, horizontal position, vertical position and some overhead positions, as well as performing groove weld joints and some pipe joints. Students may contact instructor, Bob Bonin, at bbonin@fairmont.k12.mn.us for more information or to enroll in this course.

Adults can register through Community Education and Recreation (CER) in Fairmont by calling (507) 235-3141. The class will meet 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays, Jan. 8, 15, 22, 29, Feb. 5, 12, 19, 26, March 5, 12, 19, 26, and April 2, 9. Zoom will be used in lieu of inclement weather.
