Early Risers set Wednesday meeting

Early Risers Kiwanis Club of Fairmont will meet for breakfast and an informative talk at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, at the Ranch Restaurant, Fairmont. Featured speaker will be Michelle Nelson, children’s librarian at the Martin County Library in Fairmont. The public is invited to come for breakfast and hear a captivating talk from Michelle.

Awards & Scholarship Program Friday in Blue Earth

The 40th annual Kiwanis/First Bank Blue Earth Academic Awards & Scholarship Program will be held Friday, May 10, at Blue Earth Area High School in Blue Earth. The banquet will begin 7 p.m. in the PAC at the high school, with the program, awards ceremony and a dessert to follow. Students in grades 8-12 will be recognized individually for their academic achievement by receiving academic certificates and medals. Also, the Kiwanis Club along with several other businesses and organizations will be presenting financial scholarships to graduating seniors. Tickets can be purchased from the high school principal’s office or from any member of the Blue Earth Kiwanis Club for only $10 per ticket. Those who would like to sponsor an honor student can purchase a ticket and put their name on the back of the ticket and they will make sure that the honor student will receive that ticket.

College News

The following area students received degrees, diplomas or certificates at a ceremony held May 3 at Southeast Technical College in Sioux Falls, S.D.: Blue Earth — Waylen Douglas, Associate of Applied Science in Civil Engineering Technology; Bricelyn — Gunnar Schultze, Associate of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology; Fairmont — Dominic Hegdal, Associate of Applied Science in Digital Media Production Technology.
