Fairmont girls score go-ahead goal in 2nd half to secure win

FAIRMONT 2, WORTHINGTON 1
WORTHINGTON – The Fairmont girls soccer team defeated Worthington 2-1 in Thursday night’s Big South Conference matchup.
Kennedy Becker had the first goal of the night assisted by Mataya Weber in the 17th minute of the first half. Becker again found the back of the goal, this time assisted by Bella Schroeder, while goalkeeper Addie Folkerts saved three shots.
The junior varsity squad was able to secure a 2-0 victory, with goals coming from Abi McAdams and Addy Urban, while Charlie Clow and Lianna Weber added two assists.
C-squad’s game ended in a draw 1-1, with the only goal coming Geminnie Lopez assisted by Mckenna Ludacer and goalkeeper Naileah Quinoz saved three shots.
The Cardinals’ next game is Monday against St. Peter.
PREP VOLLEYBALL
GHEC/TRUMAN 3, LOYOLA 1
TRIMONT – The Granada-Huntley East Chain/Truman Jaguars defeated Mankato Loyola 3-1 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division volleyball match Thursday 23-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-18.
Leading the Jaguars was Londyn Bowers with 16 kills, 20 assists and 13 digs. Keira Benck had five aces and five digs, while Madisen Lewis added eight kills and three aces in the team’s victory.
The teams next match is Saturday for a varsity invitational at Nicollet.
PREP CROSS-COUNTRY
St. James – The Fairmont girls and boys cross-country team participated in the St. James cross-country Invitational on Thursday.
Leading the boys was Cooper Gudahl, who ran a 17:36.76 securing fourth place and Andrew Haugen took ninth with a time of 19:05.71, while Devin Hanson ran a 19:34.62 landing him in 14th. Braydon Lindsay took 16th with a time of 19:43.68 and Leo Yang came in 39th with a time of 22:28.67, while Michael Hamlet landed in 40th with a time of 22:28.96. With them was Matthew Senneff with a time of 22:42.31 securing a 43rd-place finish.
Leading the girls was Carys Gudahl with a time of 23.26.56 landing her in 5th place and Kendra Blomster in 18th place running a time of 25:42.48, while Delaney Klug secured 20th with a time of 26:14.92. Reese Fenske took 31st running a 28:39.35 and Rylee Maday took 34th with a time of 28:56.18 and Paige DeBoer ran a 32:09.92, landing her in 39th, while Elizabeth Hart ran a 33:24.12 to secure 41st.
Fairmont’s next meet is Monday at St. James.

BLUE EARTH – The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers swept Worthington in a Big South Conference tennis match Thursday.
Grace Hanson won her No. 1 singles match against Chloe Martinez 6-0, 6-1, while Addison Prescher defeated Sadie Nickel in their No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-0. Abbey Lorenz won her No. 3 singles match against Lily Brown 6-1, 6-0, while Abigail Greff won her No. 3 against Madison Poe 6-1, 6-3.
Carol Schrader and Erin Prescher won their No. 1 doubles match against Kah Blu Moo and Makayla Phouangphet (no score submitted), while Grace Schavey and Brooklyn Rosenau won their No. 2 doubles match against Ashley Esparza and Tiana Garcia 6-1, 6-1. Mckinley Hanson and Katelyn Storbeck won their No. 3 doubles match against Angie Dailey and Cassie Schulz 6-2, 6-1.
The Buccaneers’ next meet is the varsity section quarterfinal opponent and location to be determined.
