Cardinals battle back, defeat JCC in extra innings Thursday

JACKSON — The Fairmont Cardinals baseball team came back on Thursday to take down Jackson County Central 7-5 in a nonconference baseball game.

Nate Soelter was 2 for 3 with a triple, a double, three runs scored, two RBIs and a pair of walks to lead the Cardinals at the plate, while Josh Soelter added a double and two RBIs. Nate Soelter started on the mound in pitched two innings, allowing two hits and no walks for two earned runs while striking out six.

Benjamin Moeller pitched 3 and 2/3 innings in relief for the Cardinals, allowing four hits and three walks for three earned runs while fanning six.

Joe Long pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief for Fairmont to earn the win. He didn’t allow any hits, walks or runs and struck out three.
