Voss tops JCC boys hoops’ win over Fairmont

JACKSON — Rudy Voss scored a game-best 23 points, while three Huskies teammates also reached double digits to help Jackson County Central edge the Fairmont Cardinals, 68-64, in a Big South Conference basketball clash Tuesday night in Jackson.

Andrew Hesebeck scored 16 points, Dominic Bargfrede knocked down 12 and Nathaniel Post notched 10 to help power the Huskies.

Wyatt Frank led the Cardinal offense with 18 points, while pulling down a co-team-high six rebounds alongside Zach Jorgensen, who added 15 points.

Carter Bell hit 5 of 8 shots from beyond the 3-point arc on the way to 17 points for Fairmont, while Jack Hested hit 3 of 7 from long distance to help build a 10-point performance.

Jorgensen added to his 15 points and six boards by dishing out five assists.

Fairmont shot 25 of 57 overall, including 8 of 21 from 3-point range, and made 6 of 8 free throws.

JCC hit 27 out of 63 shots, 5 of 24 from behind the arc, and sank 9 of 14 free throws.

JCC outrebounded Fairmont 39-30.

Fairmont (5-3) plays host to St. Peter at 7:15 p.m. Friday night.

JCC (6-2) hosts Estherville-Lincoln Central at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Jackson.

JCC edged Fairmont in B-squad action, 69-63, Tuesday night in Jackson.

Gavin Junkermeier produced 21 points and eight rebounds for the Cardinals, Tanner Rosch generated 14 points and six rebounds, while Jacob Crissinger tossed in 14 points.

Blue Earth Area 50, Maple River 36 — Three Bucs posted double-digit scoring nights to capture a 14-point nonconference triumph over the Eagles on Tuesday night in Blue Earth.

Cameron Anderson led the Bucs with 18 points to complement four rebounds, while Grant Strukel knocked down 12 points and tipped away four steals.

Zach Herrmann totalled 10 points to help power the Bucs’ offense, while grabbing six rebounds.

Braden Gudahl posted four points and knocked away five steals, while Sam Keister also totalled four points, but added a team-high seven rebounds.

Lucas Doering led the Eagles with nine points.

BEA (4-3) travels to Waseca for a Big South Conference matchup at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Eagle Grove 45, North Union 36 — Two Eagle players combined for 34 of the team’s 45 points in a nine-point Top of Iowa Conference basketball win over the Warriors on Tuesday night in Armstrong.

Chase Mason contributed 19 points, while Enzo Gebara totalled 15 to power the Eagles’ winning ways.

Noah Morphew led the Warriors with 11 points to complement four rebounds, while teammate Robert Ortman dropped five points and brought down a team-high 12 boards.

Braden Pierce added eight points to the Warriors’ efforts, while Brendan Anderson complemented four points with six steals.

North Union (1-9) travels to Garner, Iowa, for a 7:30 p.m. Top of Iowa Conference matchup with Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on Friday.
