Fairmont and Blue Earth Area open the Section 1A individual boys tennis tournament at noon today at the Swanson Tennis Center on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus in St. Peter.

FHS girls golf tees off 3AA

The Fairmont girls golf lineup tees off the Section 3AA Meet’s Day 1 action at 10 a.m. today at Oakdale Golf Club near Buffalo Lake.

The Fairmont boys golf team competes at Oakdale Golf Club at 10 a.m. Thursday.

State-qualifying Day 2 sectional action for both the girls and boys golfers takes place Tuesday, May 28, back at Oakdale Golf Club.

Section softball games changed

Rain, cold temperatures and gusting winds Tuesday caused three area softball teams to have their respective sectional playoff games postponed.

No. 13-seeded Blue Earth Area travels to No. 4-seeded New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva today for a 5 p.m. first-round Section 2AA postseason game, while No. 11-seeded Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman hits the road to No. 6-seeded Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton today for a 5 p.m. Section 2A opening-round clash.

No. 6-seeded Martin County West faces No. 3-seeded St. James Area in first-round Section 3AA, South Sub-Section action at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Luverne. The MCW–SJA winner then advances to face either No. 2-seeded Luverne or No. 7-seeded Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in a 5 p.m. second-round postseason contest in Luverne.

Area baseball brackets set

The No. 2-seeded Fairmont Cardinals baseball team hosts a three-game, four-team Section 3AA, South Sub-Section pod Saturday at Herb Wolf Field.

Fairmont squares off against No. 7-seeded Jackson County Central in an 11 a.m. first-round clash before No. 3-seeded Windom Area faces No. 6-seeded St. James Area at 1 p.m. The winners of those two games square off in second-round play at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

In Section 3AA, South Sub-Section action in Luverne on Saturday, No. 1-seeded Luverne battles No. 8-seeded Martin County West at 11 a.m. before No. 4-seeded Pipestone and No. 5-seeded Tracy-Milroy-Balaton square off at 1 p.m. Those two winners then battle in Round 2 at 3:30 p.m.

In sectional postseason play Thursday, both Blue Earth Area and Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain stay home for their respective openers.

No. 4-seeded Blue Earth Area battles No. 13-seeded Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial at 5 p.m. in Blue Earth in Section 2AA action. Meanwhile, the No. 5-seeded Jaguars host No. 12-seeded Madelia in a 5 p.m. Section 2A opener in Truman.
