Okoboji ekes out win over North Union football

MILFORD, Iowa — The Okoboji Pioneers opened the Iowa prep football season with a 6-0 non-district win against the North Union Warriors on Friday night in Milford, Iowa.

After the Warriors and Pioneers battled to a scoreless tie at halftime, including North Union limiting Okoboji to only six total yards of offense during the first two quarters, the home team produced the contest’s only points during the third frame.

The Pioneers quenched their scoring drought when quarterback Jacob Allen connected with receiver Ryan Feller for a 49-yard completion to move Okoboji into Warriors’ territory.

Allen then threw the football 29 yards to receiver Logan Abrahamson in the end zone for the only score of the night at the 4-minute mark of the third segment.

Running back Isaac Engeman produced 78 first-half yards on an incredible 22 carries to pace the Warriors’ 111 yards of total offense during the initial two quarters.

Brendan Anderson pocketed one interception for the Warriors’ defense.

North Union (0-1), an Iowa Class A, District 2 football program, plays host to District 3 competitor Rockford Senior during its home opener at 7 p.m. next Friday night in Armstrong.

North Union opens district action by traveling to Holstein, Iowa, on Friday, Sept. 8, for a contest against Ridge View.
