Irlbeck passes Cardinals by Bucs, 31-14

REDWOOD FALLS – Redwood Valley quarterback Mitchell Irlbeck completed 16 of 25 passes for three touchdowns to help guide the Cardinals to a 31-14 South Central White District football victory over the Blue Earth Area Bucs on Friday night in Redwood Falls.

Irlbeck connected on scoring strikes of 3, 11 and 3 yards, respectively, to Bailey Sommers to pace the Cardinals’ air attack. Sommers pocketed a game-high nine catches for 106 yards, while James Pendleton made three receptions for 70 yards.

Running back Logan Josephson gained 100 yards, including a 7-yard TD run, on 28 carries for Redwood Valley, while Irlbeck added 57 rushing yards on 10 totes.

Thomas Amberg kicked a 27-yard field goal and made all four PATs to round out the Cardinals’ point production.

Running back Kaylan Legred reached the end zone for the Bucs on a 4-yard scamper during the opening quarter. Quarterback Logan Jahnke added a 7-yard TD run in the third period before completing a 2-point conversion pass to Chris Sanders.

Jahnke completed 5 of 15 passes for 65 yards for Blue Earth Area, while Chris Sanders made one reception for 48 yards and Blake Barnett added one catch for 10 yards.

Jahnke netted 31 yards on 11 carries, while running back Zach Buseman added 16 yards on five totes.

Jesus Quintero recorded 9 1/2 tackles to top the Bucs’ defensive charts, while Chris Sanders contributed nine stops. Jahnke and Buseman chipped in seven tackles each, with Jahnke garnering an interception.

Blue Earth Area (1-2) plays host to Class 3A, No. 4-ranked Jackson County Central at 7 p.m. Friday night at Wilson Field in Blue Earth.

Bishop Garrigan 35, North Union 0 – The Golden Bears shut out the Warriors during non-district Iowa prep football action Saturday night in Algona, Iowa.

The game, originally set for Friday night, was postponed 24 hours due to heavy rains on Thursday in Algona.

Eythan Blair recorded a game-high 15 tackles to pace North Union’s defensive effort, Preston Brandenburg supplied nine stops, while Jared Larson contributed five tackles.

Trent Pedersen returned five punts for 172 yards, including a long of 51 yards, for a 34.4-yard average for the Warriors.

Quarterback Elliott Hagebock completed 3 of 7 passes for 24 yards for North Union, with Brady Anderson making two receptions for 17 yards and Derek Thompson grabbing one throw for seven yards.

Isaac Engeman topped the Warriors’ ground game by gaining 21 yards on seven totes.

North Union (1-3) plays host to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn at 7 p.m. Friday night in Armstrong.
