Grateful for student volunteers To the Editor: The Heritage Acres Board of Directors wish to thank the twelve (12) high school students that volunteered on May 12. They gave us a jump start on spring work by doing such things as: • Painting picnic tables. • Cleaning the church. • Dusting in the Morton building. • Planting flower bulbs. • Painting the granary. MCW, Fairmont CER share interns The MVAC/Martin County intern program has seen dozens of area students go through it and receive relevant experience at local jobs. This year two CER offices, one in Fairmont and one at Martin County West, are sharing a set of twin sisters. Kelley and Kiley Bettin will work between both offices. Helping veterans struggling with addiction To the Editor: Memorial Day is a time to honor the memory of all the men and women who lost their lives while serving in the U.S. military. It can be a somber time for veterans and their families. Outside of this day, we must never forget the countless veterans who made it home but are struggling with addiction and mental health issues. Many other veterans have lost their lives to this and suicide. Early intervention and prevention is critical to help veterans find the treatment they need. Viesselman honored as coach Congratulations to Fairmont High School's robotics coach, Sam Viesselman, who was recently named Robotics Coach of the Year for Section 2 and Assistant Robotics Coach of the Year statewide by the Minnesota Coaches Association. Viesselman got his start as a student in FHS's robotics program and is now serving as a coach. He has proven to be an outstanding coach and has led this year's team to win first at the state tournament and it even qualified for and attended the world competition. Recent editorials off base To the Editor: Recent opinions submitted to the Sentinel are completely off-base and out-of-touch. In response to Mr. Bradley’s recent piece, he writes as though he is some sort of “father” to Fairmont, and is clearly voicing his disapproval of recent behavior by scolding us all for our transgressions. Mr. Bradley seems to think that because Mr. Lubenow was defeated in a previous election that he is therefore never allowed to hold office ever again. He alleges that councilors Kawecki and Maynard “overturned the vote of Ward 3’s citizens.” Wrong. ...
