Fairmont speech sends 16 to state

Congratulations to Fairmont High School’s speech team, which is competing in the state speech tournament this weekend. This year the team is sending an impressive number of 16 students to state. We commend these students on their hard work and wish them good luck this weekend.

Officer Boltjes reflects on career

We extend kudos to Fairmont Area Schools, where school board members have voted to suspend student activity fees for the coming school year. With sports seasons jumbled, games reduced and people facing economic hard times, the school has done the community a service.

Council moves on filling administrator role

The Fairmont City Council this week made several steps toward finding a new city administrator. It approved finding a recruiting firm, putting together a hiring committee and looking for an interim city administrator. It’s good that the council was able to agree on these steps and hopefully it all works out for the best.

Council considers fire hall needs

The city council also took action in approving a feasability study to look at needs at the fire hall. While this wasn’t originally included in the CIP, it’s good that council will be able to reallocate funds to pay for the study. We need to keep up with our city buildings.
