MCW, Fairmont CER share interns

The MVAC/Martin County intern program has seen dozens of area students go through it and receive relevant experience at local jobs. This year two CER offices, one in Fairmont and one at Martin County West, are sharing a set of twin sisters. Kelley and Kiley Bettin will work between both offices. It’s great to see entities partner and work together. No doubt the two interns will benefit from the leadership and experiences they’ll receive from both offices.

Market offers variety for all

A sure sign of summer is the Fairmont Farmers’ Market, which opens next weekend. There a number of local farmers and vendors will have their products available each Saturday through October. While many pay with cash, Rural Advantage will have a merchant terminal there so credit card carriers–or EBT carriers– can make purchases with tokens. Rural Advantage also has a program for children and seniors to encourage the purchase and consumption of healthy food. Sounds like the farmers’ market is something everyone in the community should check out.

District gears up for summer projects

The Fairmont Area School District has several big projects slated for this summer. Building and grounds director, Tyler Garrison, outlined some of the projects which will impact and benefit not only staff and students, but the community as well. It’s nice to see how transparent and fiscally responsible the district is being with these projects by using Covid relief funds.

New Public Works Director begins

Fairmont’s new Public Works Director, Matthew York, began this week. Matthew comes with his family from Florida and brings with him a lot of experience. There are a number of projects planned in the city this summer which he will take the lead on and we have no doubt that he will do a fine job. Welcome to the community, Matthew!
