Weeds overtake chain of lakes Curly-leaf Pondweed is very visibly present in all of Fairmont’s five lakes. Time is of the essence to eliminate this invasive weed. Lakeshore owners please remove the roots completely and let the weed dry out and die before disposing of it. All community members can also help eliminate this weed and others by taking care of their grass clippings and leaves and keeping the drains that lead to the lakes clear. Kinship plans community resiliency courses Thank you, Kinship of Martin County, for bringing resiliency courses to our community. One of the courses is being held at Gomsrud Park today and instructors from Crime and Self Protection Awareness Advisors will teach children safety skills. Today’s event is done in cooperation with Chain Lake Lodge as Kinship has a goal of partnering with other organizations for the courses. Council moves forward financing plan This week the Fairmont City Council moved forward the proposed financing plan for the proposed community center. While a lot of additional steps need to be taken and contracts need to be worked out, this was a good step toward moving this project forward. Truman looks to add Hwy 15 sidewalk This week the Truman City Council discussed how it wanted to proceed following the bids received for an expansion of its campground. The estimated cost is clocking in at nearly $500,000. Some council members have expressed concerns on how to fund it though are open to the possibility of selling the land for it to be developed privately. This sounds like it could be the best option for both the council and the community.
