Brian Winter
WINNEBAGO — With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Brian Winter, who left this world on July 2, 2026, at the age of 54, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on Oct. 1, 1971, in Blue Earth, Minn., Brian was the cherished son of Wallace and Mary Lee (Ahl) Terry. He grew up in Blue Earth, forming lifelong bonds and creating wonderful memories with friends and family. Mary Lee and Wally separated and Brian was blessed to be raised by her second husband Gary Winter, as well as a loving crew of bonus siblings. After high school, he proudly served his country in the Army National Guard from 1991-2000. He married the love of his life, Kalene Duit, and together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter and love. Just two weeks after their wedding, Brian proudly joined the Martin County Highway Department, where he put his heart into every project he tackled, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Known for his love of family, Brian particularly enjoyed ice fishing trips, cheering on his favorite racers alongside his son, Mitchell, indulging in his daughter Meghan’s delicious desserts, and engaging in playful game nights with his daughter, McKinley. His faith in Jesus shone brightly throughout his life, even as he fought a brave battle with cancer.
Left to cherish his memory; his wife Kalene, children; Mitchell, Meghan and McKinley, his mother, Mary Lee Winter, siblings; Brad Winter, Beth Holst, Steve Winter and Scott (Angie) Winter. Father-in-law Dale Duit, mother-in-law Cheryl Newville, sister-in-law Alisha (Tim) Johnson, brothers-in-law Todd (Kim) Duit and DJ Duit as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other extended family and close friends.
He is preceded in death by his fathers Gary Winter and Wallace Terry, father-in-law John Newville and his maternal and paternal grandparents. We invite you to honor Brian’s life and legacy during the public visitation at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior on July 8, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m., where friends and family will gather to share stories and memories. It will continue one hour before the service. A celebration of his extraordinary life will take place the following day, July 9, 2026, at 11 a.m., also at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Winnebago. Online condolences can be left and a livestream of the service can be viewed at www.spencerowen.com
