Roland and Ardyth Juhlin

FAIRMONT — A service celebrating the lives of Roland, 93, and Ardyth Juhlin, 92, both of Fairmont, Minn., will be held at a later date in the spring. Ardyth passed away Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont, and Roland passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021, at Heartland Senior Living in Truman, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ardyth (Otto) Juhlin was born Nov. 17, 1929, in New Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Maude (Miller) Otto. She attended school in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School with the class of 1949. Roland Juhlin was born Sept. 12, 1928, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Gretchen (Merz) Juhlin. Roland attended school in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School with the class of 1946. Following his graduation, Roland enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served his county proudly and was stationed overseas in Korea and Japan, earning the WWII Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. On May 27, 1954, Ardyth and Roland were united in married in Mason City, Iowa. Together, the couple made their home in Osage, Iowa, Mason City, Iowa, Austin, Minn., and later Fairmont, Minn., where they celebrated over 67 years of marriage and were blessed with two children, Linda and Larry. Ardyth worked at JC Penny’s from 1970 until her retirement on Jan. 31, 1992. Following her retirement, Ardyth returned to JC Penny’s where she worked part-time at the job she loved with her many good friends. Roland worked in sales and as an accountant for International Harvester. After several transfers within the company, the family moved to their “forever” home in Fairmont where Roland worked until his retirement. In his retirement, Roland drove for S.T.E.P and created a special bond with those he helped and transported through the years. Ardyth treasured spending time with her children and in their youth was active in Girl Scouts in addition to being a den mother for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. She had a passion for helping others and volunteered her time at the Fairmont Hospital Gift Shop. In her spare time, Ardyth enjoyed fabric painting, embroidering, sewing and crafts that she shared with those she cared about. Roland also cherished spending time with his children and was active in helping with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Roland was active with Disabled American Veterans where he served as bookkeeper for many years. In his spare time, Roland enjoyed the beauty of nature trying his luck on the lakes playing golf, hunting, fishing and shooting trap. His quiet time was spent working on a new carving project. Ardyth and Roland were amazing parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. They were loyal, compassionate, and caring. Their friends were friends for life, and they welcomed friends into their lives like family. Ardyth and Roland passed away just six days apart after a lifetime of love and making memories. Their love for each other was amazing, beautiful, and everlasting. They loved traveling together and took many trips up North. As long as they were together, they were happy. As in life as in death, they are together. Left to cherish their memory are their son, Larry Juhlin of Wabasha, Minn.; daughter, Linda Juhlin of Siler City, N.C.; grandchildren, Heather Henderson, Ronnie Henderson, and MaKayla Henderson all of North Carolina; five great-granddaughters, Hadley, Harper, Laken, Zoe and Maya; Roland’s sister, Greta Brahm of Ohio; nieces and nephews; special friends, Trudy and Ida; as well as many other extended family and friends. Ardyth was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Maude Otto; brother, Leighton Ider; sister-in-law, Verna; and niece, Julie. Roland was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Gretchen Juhlin; wife, Ardyth Juhlin; brother, Darold and Virginia Juhlin; and nephew Stephen.
