Fairmont Speech takes gold at last invite

FAIRMONT — Twenty-eight members of the Fairmont Speech Team competed at the Jordan “Last Chance” Speech Tournament on April 5 in Jordan.

Fairmont took First Place in the Large Team Sweepstakes with 195 points. Mankato Loyola took Second Place with 117 points.

Varsity Champions:

Senior Dominick Lund-May in Extemporaneous Speaking, Seniors Grace Simpson and Oliver Thedens in Duo Interpretation, Senior Grace Simpson in Dramatic Interpretation, Senior Oliver Thedens in Extemporaneous Reading, Junior Belinda Lutterman in Original Oratory, and Sophomore Leon Yang in Humorous Interpretation.

Second Place: Senior Alayna Haefner in Original Oratory, Junior Cooper Gudahl in Prose, Sophomore Leon Yang in Dramatic Interpretation.

Third Place: Sophomore Allie Streit in Dramatic Interpretation.

Fifth Place: Senior Isaac Thomas in Humorous Interpretation, Sophomore Annie Reyelts and Freshman Evan Reyelts in Duo Interpretation, and Freshman Jazzleene Lopez in Original Oratory.

Sixth Place: Senior Isaac Thomas in Storytelling and Senior Zoey Tasseff in Creative Expression.

Next-In Varsity Champions: Junior Megan Wheeler in Storytelling, Junior Levi Loughmiller in Extemporaneous Speaking, and Seventh Grader Addie Lintelman in Original Oratory.

Next-In Second Place: Sophomore Annie Reyelts in Dramatic Interpretation and Freshman Michelle Esquivel in Storytelling.

Next-In Third Place: Eighth Grader Sophia Streit in Storytelling.

Next-In Fourth Place: Sophomore Gabbie Thoeny in Creative Expression and Eighth Grader Hannah Gries in Dramatic Interpretation.

Next-In Fifth Place: Sophomore Allie Streit in Prose and Freshman Bella Coan in Informative Speaking.

The Fairmont Speech Team competes at the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Section 2A Speech Tournament on Friday, April 11, at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton (JWP) High School. The Fairmont Speech Team is coached by Kathleen Walker, Erik Walker and Miles Duffey.
