The Fairmont Area School District had an uncontested race with three open seats and three people who filed. Dan Brookens, Nicole Green and Shayna Wolfe received 3,976, 3,863 and 3,427 votes respectively.

For the State Representative District 22A seat, incumbent Bjorn Olson came away with 15,700, or 69.42 percent of the votes compared to Marisa Ulmen’s 6,896 votes. For the District 21B seat, which covers a portion of this area, Marj Fogelman received a majority 11,983 votes over challenger Jon Wilson’s 6,078 votes.

As reported in Wednesday’s paper, current Fairmont City Council Ward 2 representative, Britney Kawecki, came away with 2,099 or 43.86 percent of the votes for the at-large position.

“I’m excited and looking forward to the future. I think the citizens showed where they’d like to see the future of Fairmont go. I think the results spoke loudly,” Kawecki said.

While the second Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) to fund the construction of an ice arena failed in Fairmont, members of the Fairmont Hockey Association are still grateful to all who voted.

Association president, Jessica Scholl, said, “we fell short in the vote and it wasn’t the result we were hoping for, but we’re grateful to everyone who worked as part of this team.”

Next, Scholl said they’re taking the matter back to the board to decide what can be done with the current facility and how they can move forward.
