David Eugene Anderson was born Feb. 20, 1939, in Jackson, Minn., to Forrest and Ruth (Carter) Anderson. David was baptized at the Presbyterian Church in Jackson. He grew up and attended school in Jackson.
After high school, David worked for the Jackson Co-op grain elevator. The job enabled him to purchase his favorite car, a 1958 Chevy. David and his black ’58 Chevy caught the attention of a young bookkeeper, Merrilyn Sadusky, who was working at a Jackson gas station.
On June 4, 1960, he married the love of his life, Merrilyn. They resided on an acreage south of Jackson and then moved into town near the Livestock Exchange soon thereafter. They were blessed with two children, Kristy and Corey. In 1975, David began working for the City of Jackson Street Department. He worked there as the Shop Foreman and Head Mechanic until his retirement in 2004.
David loved to solve problems, especially if he could engineer a solution from a drawing he constructed after analyzing an issue. His problem-solving skills served him well in his head mechanic position at the City of Jackson.
David’s passion for cars spurred him to build the familiar number 2 driven by Daryl Burns in the early years of the Jackson VFW Speedway. He enjoyed many types of racing and could often be found at the Saturday night races in Jackson.
In his retirement, David and Merrilyn traveled to countless garage sales around Southwest Minnesota and Northwest Iowa. He collected old fishing equipment and obscure tools discovered in their travels. David also built an impressive display of varied types of barbed wire, noting the manufacturer and year. He also loved reading and learning about the history of Jackson and Jackson County.
After Merrilyn passed away in November 2018, David continued to live at their home keeping busy reading, working on puzzles, and creating a number of canvas paintings. He could also be found taking daily joy rides throughout Jackson County in his pickup. In April of 2022, David became a resident of Temperance Lake Ridge in Sherburn, Minn., where he passed away on May 12, 2026.
He is survived by his daughter, Kristy (Darin Schliemann) Konda of Jackson, his son, Corey (Teresa) Anderson of Milford, Iowa, his brother-in-law Jim Klima of Fairmont, Minn., and one grandson, Dylan.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Merrilyn, his siblings, Dennis in 2004, Karen in 2019, Wanda in 2022, nieces, Amy and Nora, son-in-law, Jimmy Konda, and his parents, Forry and Ruth.
David’s family kindly asks that all attendees wear casual attire.
