Sherburn hears Hwy 4 update
SHERBURN — The Sherburn City Council met Monday evening. Derek Behrens, engineer at Bolton and Menk, updated the council on the Highway 4 project. The curb and gutter is almost done with one block left by Second Street, then sidewalks will be done with Second Street to Fifth Street yet to be done. They hope to get that done next week. They also hope to open intersections next week. MCM Paving will work on the downtown area and hopes to finish so traffic can be going to businesses in three or four weeks. Some rainy days have delayed some projects. Behrens also explained the State Department of Housing project to find lead water lines in communities. The City has sent surveys to residents.
Administrator’s report from Leslie Heffele asked about a request to limit the size of branches and logs and trees taken to the City burn site. After discussion the council thought that may be too much of a burden on the residents and hoped that the tree services could cut up the larger pieces of wood. The Administrator will discuss the matter with the public works employees.
The waste water plant is nearing completion with all the mechanical and electrical parts at work now. There is some painting and small projects to do and they anticipate the final date for completion to be in July 2024.
The lights ordered for the street by the elementary school should be coming. The administrator will look into a delivery/installation date. The storm sewer by Second Street is backed up and the council suggested that there is or should be a list or schedule of storm sewer checks to be proactive instead of reactive.
The ordering system at the liquor store was discussed since the manager asked what the council favored, a processing fee for all whether cash or credit card used or processing fee but cash payments given a discount. The prices may have to be raised to make the store profitable. The council favored the discount option.
