Welcome sets fines

WELCOME– Welcome City Council held its meeting Tuesday evening when a discussion about fines for raising animals within the city limits was held. The council decided to set the fine at $100 for the first violation and $150 for the second and $200 for the third. The council voiced an opinion that the fine needed to be substantial to curb continuing violations.

City Employee, Max Longley, reported that there is a need for a new fire hydrant on Second Street and a bid he had was for $5,000. The council asked him to get some lower bids. Longley also reported that the bids for the fence at the City building would be at least $5,000 and the council approved the purchase and installation of the fence for this year and budget for the second fence next year. He also reported that the zip line was almost ready and that loads of pea rock would need to be purchased. The council approved the pea

rock and asked about curbs to keep the pea rock under the zipline. Bids will be obtained for the curbs but the concrete pouring season is almost over.

The council approved the purchase of a fluoride pump for $850. Water meters are almost done with only a few left to be changed. This needs to be done now so the water bills etc. for the whole city can be accurately reported.

A discussion about the Jetter type truck bid of $195,000 was held. Other resources were mentioned and will be checked out. The cities of Sherburn and Trimont use the truck too and no insulated storage is available at any city storage. City employees will cut the weeds at the cemetery circle. A suggestion that city employees keep track of their tasks was tabled.

The next Welcome City Council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 18, at Welcome City Hall.

Starting at $2.99/week.
