Ceylon discusses Clean Up Day

CEYLON — During the Ceylon City Council meeting on Tuesday, the Helping Hands of Ceylon group wanted to advertise for bids to paint the park’s two swingsets and tire swing. The council approved their request and suggested they ask the company about paint that would adhere to galvanized metal. The group said they would use the grant they received for the painting project.

In the city employees’ report, the tractor will be sent soon after planting, perhaps from Miller Sellner. The four-wheeler the city uses to spray needs repair or replacement. Since the current four-wheeler is 20-plus years old, the council gave the city employees permission to get bids for a new four-wheeler and bring the quotes back to the council at the next meeting. $5,000 is the highest price the council would like to see.

Clean Up Day is Saturday. There are no appliances to be picked up. Things should be on the curb and have a tag bought at the City Hall. Clean Up Day was discussed as a great opportunity for those on the junk ordinance list to get rid of things on their property for only $10 for a pickup of a bed-sized pile. The council approved requesting law enforcement to issue citations to those on the ordinance violation list if they do not remove junk on their property on Clean Up Day.

The Community Day issues were discussed. The city employees reported that the skid loader was used to clean mud off the roads near the old football field.

The Mayor asked about work sessions on the fourth Tuesday of each month. The council asked that special meetings be quarterly and regular meetings remain once a month. The next special quarterly meeting will be at 7 p.m. on June 2, at the park shelter house. It will be a town meeting to inform residents of things discussed and approved by the council.
