Council hears multiple reports

SHERBURN — Sherburn City Council held its meeting Monday evening. The council will re-submit the levy proposal after changing the debt service to not be included in the general fund operating levy as recommended by County officials to be compliant with state law. The council also approved getting a realtor to help sell the property on Lake Street that was a tax forfeiture and needed demolishing and cleaning up. There is one proposal so far and the council intends to open bids for the property.

Derek Behrens, an engineer from Bolton and Menk, gave some updates on the street project. He said the construction was progressing well and good weather has helped. If the weather holds on the construction will continue. They are hoping to do some concrete work and even possibly some asphalt work. The water pipes by Third Street are being worked on. There were 4four crews working and now there are three crews. There have been some issues from residents and they were resolved.

Lisa Lange also gave a monthly report from Temperance Lake Ridge. They are replacing their management company since the previous company no longer manages their type of building. The staffing is in good shape. Minnesota Department of Health requirements no longer require staff to have masks unless they are working with a positive Covid patient. They continue to screen patients two times a day. Visitors must wear a mask to enter the building. They are redoing some bathrooms, from tubs to showers, which could cost around $3,000 a bathroom. They plan maintenance such as an update to lighting and some hallways

and flooring.

The council continued the meeting with reports. The deputy city clerk asked about transferring monies to a restricted/capital account as was budgeted and approved for Temperance Lake Ridge. The council discussed it and decided to act on this later with other budget items. This could be used to maintain the buildings, etc. The council discussed the speed limit on east Temperance Lake Road. Law enforcement will look into posting a 30 mph speed limit there and report back to the council.

In other news:

— The ash tree ordinance also discussed. There may be as many as 35 percent of the trees affected.

— Red Carpet Management reported that they have hired part-time bartenders and are looking for part-time cooks. They also asked if a small snowblower could be purchased to clear out smaller spaces.

– The council discussed going forward on the administrator position and went into closed session to discuss this personnel issue.

The next Sherburn City Council meeting is scheduled 5 p.m. on Oct. 17, at Sherburn City Hall.

Starting at $2.99/week.
