Ceylon town meeting on June 2
CEYLON — This coming week ushers in June.
The Ceylon City Council will have a town meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, at the Mondale Park shelter house. Residents are encouraged to bring concerns or ideas to the council. Please be concise, courteous and explain what is on your mind regarding the city and area of Ceylon. If this is successful, the council will have more town meetings.
The Ceylon Area Historical Society Museum has decided not to open on the first Sunday of the summer months this year. The museum will be open by appointment and residents may call one of the directors, Greg Bents, at (507) 632-4242. The directors are Greg Bents, Ronnie Leiding, Jim Plumhoff, Steven Houfer, Marilyn Stelter and Ann Yackle. The museum is full of items from the city, school and area, along with military items. It is an interesting place to visit.
The Circle of Faith Parishes will change the order of churches hosting the services in June. The services in June will be at 9 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Trimont and at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. Note the time switch from the May services schedule. St. Paul’s Lutheran in Wilbert will have 10 a.m. services on Sundays. St. John’s Lutheran in Sherburn will have 8 a.m. services on Sundays. St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn has 10:30 a.m. Sunday services in June. St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome will have 9:30 a.m. services on Sundays. The Regional Worship Center in Sherburn (Assembly of God) has 10 a.m. services on Sunday and Wednesday evening meal and Bible classes at 5:30 p.m. Area residents are welcome to join any of these congregations for services.
The Friendship Club from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn invites area residents to join them for lunch at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 1, at Tami’s on the Ave in Fairmont. Membership at St. John’s is not required. The Friendship Club is also having a Bus Trip to the Plymouth Playhouse in Iowa on July 18 to see the sequel to Church Basement Ladies, “A Second Helping”. Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon will be closing in June. They will have their last service at 10 a.m. and a decommissioning service for the public at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 20.
Coffee Hours will continue from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in June at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for good coffee, treats and fellowship.
The CREST Lunch and Learn program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn, with a lunch after the program. Paul Edman will speak about estate planning. Call (507) 235-3833 to reserve your place. These programs are educational, fun and free for Martin County senior citizens. CREST appreciates a free-will donation.
The American Red Cross blood drives will be on June 2 and 3 at the Best Western in Fairmont, on June 15 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont, on June 19 at the American Legion in Fairmont, and on June 29 at Truman Community Hall, St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome and Trimont Covenant Church. Please call for appointments or more information about blood drives in the area at 800-RED-CROSS (800-733-2767), go online to www.redcrossblood.org or text BLOODAPP to 90999. Blood is needed every two seconds in the United States. Only about 30 percent of eligible donors give blood. The supply is low now, so give if you are eligible (ages 16 and up, weigh 110 or more and in good health). Thank you. Each blood donation may save three lives.
The Heaven’s Table Food Shelf boxes are available to Ceylon residents. Call (507) 236-7850 to learn about the guidelines and sign up. The boxes are picked up in Ceylon.
