Filings close next week

SHERBURN — Parents may begin online registration today for Martin County West School. Check out the newsletter for instructions.

The filing of Affidavits of Candidacy continue until Tuesday, Aug. 16, for the 3 school board positions for Martin County West school district. Contact the district office in the elementary school. The filing of Affidavits of Candidacy for the two city council positions and mayoral position continue until Thursday at Sherburn City Hall.

There will be an outdoor movie for MCW FFA members at 8 p.m. Thursday night to watch ”Cars” behind the high school building.

This weekend the Sherburn Theatre will hold over the movie “Where the Crawdads Sing” with showtimes at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Condolences to the family of Marcella Brolsma who passed away last week. She will be missed.

There will be a Ruby’s Pantry grocery distribution from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn, just south of I-90. There are no income or residential guidelines. Price is $25. There is a limited number of prepay links. They will set aside your box and when you show the lady your prepay you will receive the box. Go online to rubyspantry.org and follow the links to register. Stay in line and then when it is your turn show your prepay. Check out the Facebook page for a partial list of things to be distributed that month.

Saturday is the date for the Sherburn Legion steak fry 5-8 p.m. For $20 there is a choice of ribeye, shrimp, or smoked pork chop. The dinner also includes salad bar, baked potato and garlic toast. Sounds yummy, especially if you do not have to cook it, right ladies?

Tuesday coffee hours in August continue from 8:30-10 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for good brew and goodies.

The Mayo Mobile Clinic is scheduled to be in Sherburn from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, near the Sherburn City Hall. To make an appointment, call (507) 238-8500.

Next Monday also starts the Martin County Fair which runs from Aug. 15-21. Good luck to the 4-H , FFA, and open class exhibitors. Plan to attend Minnesota’s other Big Fair in Fairmont.

There will be a Lunch and Learn event beginning 11 a.m. Aug. 17, at First Lutheran Church in Trimont. This is free to all from Martin County, although they do appreciate free will donations for the expense of the meal.
