Lunch & Learn today in Trimont

SHERBURN — Condolences to the families of Roger Anderson, Elaine Lichliter and Melinda Honnette, former Sherburn area residents who passed away. They will be missed.

There will be a Lunch & Learn event sponsored by CREST beginning 11 a.m. today, May 18, at the First Lutheran Church in Trimont. The program will be Bingo and the lunch will be taco salad and Italian pasta salad with cake for dessert. This is free to anyone in Martin County. A free will donation is appreciated for the lunch.

Have you signed up for the drawings at the Sherburn Liquor Store? They have a drawing for prizes on Mondays and Fridays in May. Check it out.

Sherburn Theatre will keep the movie “Father Stu” for this weekend, May 20-22. Show times will be 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

There will be a session of Memory Cafe at 3 p.m. Monday, May 23, at the Temperance Lake Ridge facility. This is a free support group for caregivers of dementia and Alzheimers patients.

MCW athletes are winding down their games for the year. The baseball team will have a game 4:30 p.m. today at the Welcome ball fields, and the softball team will play 7 p.m. tonight at Nicollet. The softball team has a game 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Sleepy Eye, while the baseball team plays 4:30 p.m. Thursday in St. James. On Monday, May 23, the baseball and softball teams will both play games at 4:30 p.m. at the Welcome ball fields. The boys and girls golf teams will travel to Lake Crystal at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, and lastly, the baseball team will travel to Nicollet for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday, May 25. Good luck to the Maverick athletes.

The Memorial Day program in Sherburn will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 30, at the city park in Sherburn. Part of the Memorial Day event in Sherburn is the extensive Avenue of Flags honoring veterans who have passed away. Anyone who could help put up the flags should be at the park 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 28. The flags will be taken down at 5 p.m. Monday, May 30, and anyone who can help would be appreciated then too.

The last day of school for MCW is June 2, and the Awards Day program will be held that day also. Graduation is scheduled for 2 p.m. June 5, at the high school.

There are several field trips planned for elementary grades today, Thursday and Friday. They will continue May 25 through May 27. Check out the school website and check with your elementary pupil’s teacher for further information.

One of the sessions planned for June is Learning Unlimited which provides service to people with disabilities who live in a group home or at home within the area. There are few places across the state that are lucky enough to be part of this program. Sherburn is one of the school districts in the area that is part of the program along with Butterfield, Madelia, St. James and Truman school districts. Glenda Bechthold will again be the coordinator. Anyone interested in participating in the program or volunteering with the program, should contact the CER in their school district. There is also Coach T Football Camp in July and Twins Camp on August 14. Check out the many CER sessions for children and adults.

• A Red Cross blood drive will be held 1-7 p.m. June 6, at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn. • There will be city-wide rummage sales in Sherburn from June 9-11.

• Sherburn Civic and Commerce Club will have a meeting 6:30 p.m. on June 7 at the Senior Center in Sherburn.

• Sherburn Summer Festival is June 18 and the Sherburn High School Reunion is also that day at the park.
