Book helps people plan for their future

FAIRMONT– Local residents Brittany Anderson and Bryan Sweet, both of Sweet Financial in Fairmont, have co-written their fourth book together. “Dream Architecture” aims to help readers realize a future that’s possible and a retirement lifestyle they can’t wait to wake up to.
The book, which will be released in May, is actually somewhat of a prequel to an earlier work by the duo, “Dare to Dream,” which came out in 2016. That book aimed to help people determine their “why” in retirement and how they can safeguard their future.
“After taking a look at it, we felt we really missed a step in setting the stage with value identification, mindset and helping people eliminate the naysayers and really focus on what they want for their future,” Anderson explained.
She said that when they meet with clients, a lot of times, over the years, the topic of mindset comes up.
“We started looking at where money and mindset meet. We decided to write a book about it to help people realize even more possibilities for their future,” Anderson said.
The book is personal to Anderson and Sweet, who were both raised by single mothers.
Anderson shared of an experience she remembers when she was 7 or 8 years old where she watched her mother crying over her checkbook because she wasn’t sure if she would be able to make ends meet.
“She was a hard-working woman and she busted her tail for my brother and I and I remember that one moment of impact,” Anderson said.
She said that was a big turning point for herself. Anderson graduated college and began looking for a job in the service industry.
“Over the years I realized I had a call for leadership and really wanted to help lead the team at Sweet Financial. I was promoted over the years to director of operations then chef operating officer,” she said.
Now, 13 years into her time with Sweet Financial, Anderson is president and works closely with Sweet on creating the vision for the company. This includes creating growth opportunities for clients and employees.
She said their latest book lays the ground work for making sure no matter how much wealth you’ve accumulated, that your mindset is in the right place before you make decisions for your future.
In working on the book, Anderson said she enjoyed the collaboration with Sweet.
“We both tend to think really similar,” she said.
Sweet has enjoyed creating something he knows can truly help people. He said the process of writing the book and thinking about helping people dream big was so energizing.
“My hope is that people take even one step forward in pursuing a dream that they didn’t think was possible. That they choose to stop listening to the naysayers who say they can’t do something and pursue what matters to them,” Sweet said.
While it’s geared toward those who are close to retirement, Anderson said the content and meat of the book can really be applicable to anyone who wants to better their future.
“Regardless of what stage of life a person is at, if they’re thinking about their future and what they want their life and retirement to look like, I think this is something that should be read so they make the right decisions for themselves,” Anderson said.
Anderson also runs the “Women Forward” program at Sweet Financial and will have another book coming out later this year focused on women balancing their careers and family life.
Information on future book signings, as well as where to purchase the book, will be made available at a later date.
