Sherburn tackles housekeeping items

SHERBURN– The Sherburn City Council met on Monday for their first meeting in 2022. They designated the official depository as Bank Midwest, the official newspaper as the Martin County Star, the insurance agent as Michael Ringnell, and the city attorney as Costello-Carlson-Butzon and Schmit as it was last year. The mayoral appointments were also the same as last year with an addition of a position of Residential Development appointee. They council also adopted the fee schedule which had a raise in the ambulance fee because of medications used and the higher cost of them, and the higher cost of intercept calls with other ambulance services. The council also discussed the dog license situation and approved a lifetime tag for $20 instead of a yearly license each costing $5. In the past some residents have forgotten to renew dog licenses and some tags are not used and must be thrown out since they would have the wrong year on them. The council hoped more dog owners will get a license since they would only have to pay once for the life of the dog and not have to renew the license each year. This would also save the city money.

Moving to other matters, the council heard the Temperance Lake Ridge financial report. The numbers of residents was slightly lower than anticipated. The expenses were also lower and the income was up slightly. This is the first full year of depreciation on the new addition which makes a difference. When the audit is reviewed the Council would like reports on the principal and interest separately and will ask about the management fees being higher than budgeted.

The meeting continued with discussion from council members who asked that there be a quarterly or monthly report from the liquor store so they will be informed in a timely manner about things that need attention.

The city employee reported that the water plant site had some big filters that need cleaning. The new well is performing well. The lift station by the fire hall needs propellers and a check valve. These will be brought up at future council sessions.

In other action:

— The council approved an off-site gambling request from Ducks Unlimited for March 26, 2022.
