Sherburn hires new deputy clerk

SHERBURN– The Sherburn City Council met Monday night at Sherburn City Hall and approved the hiring of a new deputy clerk, Jessica Omvig. They also approved some training for the new city employee.

They council also approved hiring the firm of Burkhardt and Burkhardt for $16,000 plus. The auditing firm will be hired for five years. The liquor store has realized losses for the last two years, probably due to closings because of the COVID pandemic and also for the costs of remodeling. Annually a city must review the last three years of their municipal liquor operations and if losses have occurred in at least two of the years there needs to be a public hearing to explain the losses to the taxpayers. The council must hold a public hearing before using monies from other city funds to help the liquor store or before the council may put the question of continuing the liquor store to a vote on election night. The council approved having this public hearing on Nov. 22 and moving their regular meeting date to that date instead of on Nov. 15. The public hearing will begin 5 p.m. on Nov. 22 at the city hall in Sherburn. The regular council meeting will follow the public meeting that night. The liquor store hours were changed so that the store is closing at 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The council also approved an interest free inter-fund loan of $105,000 from the Capital Project Fund to the Water and Waste Water Fund. This will be paid back as the money becomes available. The council also approved leaving the large flower pots as they are

for the winter.

The next meeting of the Sherburn City Council will be 5 p.m. on Nov. 22 at Sherburn City Hall after the public hearing.

Starting at $2.99/week.
