Parks receive maintenance, care
FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Park Board heard an update from Park & Street Departments Supervisor Nick Lardy, a Community Education and Recreation update from CER Director Roni Dauer and discussed the results of a recent Park and Recreation Survey on Tuesday night.
Lardy said that all parks opened on May 3 including opening shelters, bathrooms, rental shelters and placing all picnic tables throughout Fairmont’s parks. Also all of the docks were installed, but one due to ice damage.
Also in the park report included work that has been done in three different parks. At Wards Park the shelter had shingle work done as well as siding work. At Gomsrud Park there were three overhead garage doors installed. At Veterans Park there was sewer service repaired that allowed the bathrooms to be opened.
Dauer gave the board a newsletter that is going out this week for summer activities for kids. Among those activities include T-ball, Fairmont Summer Playground Program and the 2021 Fairmont FCA Junior Sports Camp.
The Parks and Recreation Survey consisted of categories such as who utilizes the parks, which parks are most used, amenities most utilized, who utilizes city trails, and other categories. According to the presentation, 841 citizens responded to the survey. Most of the responders that responded utilize the parks. People who responded said that they used Gomsrud Park and Cedar Creek Park the most. The six amenities most utilized are the boat ramps, playgrounds, fishing piers, picnic areas, shelters, and trails.
“The parks that we anticipated have a lot of users, but the nice thing is to see what all of our parks are getting used,” Director of Public Works / City Engineer Troy Nemmers said. “I think that’s an important thing to see. The investment or the funds that are allocated towards the parks are being appreciated.”
The next Park Board Meeting will be on Tuesday June 15 at 4:30 p.m.
