School testing fundraising project
FAIRMONT — Fairmont Elementary School is piloting a fundraising program this spring that brings together the local business community to help consumers discover southern Minnesota products.
A catalog called “Support Local” is a collaboration between AdMfg, Liz Wheeler and Fairmont Elementary. It is filled with items made in southern Minnesota and will be shopped around for the last two weeks of March by elementary students in grades 3-6.
“Of each dollar spent in our community, 67 cents stays in the community,” Wheeler said. “So it makes sense to want to keep as much of the fundraising dollars in Fairmont as we can.”
More than 90 percent of the funds brought in by the fundraiser will stay in the area.
“Vendors have agreed to donate 50 percent of the listed catalog price of their items to the school and to selling incentives for the students,” she added. “Most of the prizes for students are also coming from local companies, many of which donated the prizes.”
Prizes for students include ice cream cones from Dairy Queen, gift cards to RePlay, tickets to movies and the Opera House, and a Hummer ride to school by Royalty Rides.
