Sherburn trying to register building

SHERBURN — The Sherburn City Council this week approved beginning the paperwork needed to put the community hall on the National Register of Historic Places.

If the building is registered, the city would become eligible for help with repairs to preserve the site, along with other buildings downtown.

In other business, the council:

o Accepted with thanks a donation from Ameriprise Financial to the fire department.

o Heard a report from the city administrator, who noted that the financial outlook at Temperance Lake Ridge is good.

o Heard a report from the administrator, who noted that possible safety lights for the Fifth Street crossing near the elementary school are still being considered. The school has been looking into grants.

o Discussed the fact that a potential craft business is still looking for a store in Sherburn. The city would like to assist.

o Learned the next meeting of the council will be 5 p.m. Feb. 3 at City Hall.
