County Relay for Life will be held Saturday

SHERBURN — An open house is being held today at Bank Midwest for John Tirevold who is retiring after 42 years of dedicated service to our local bank. The public is invited to stop by for cupcakes and refreshments from 1-4 p.m. and to wish John the best in whatever the future holds for him and his family.

An open house 90th birthday celebration for Dorothy Anderson of Dunnell will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Dunnell Community Hall. If you’re unable to attend, you may send birthday wishes to her at P.O. Box 54, Dunnell, MN 56127. Dorothy was born June 30, 1929.

This is the last weekend for Park Play in our MCW communities. The event is from 9-11 a.m. today in Welcome and from 9-11 a.m. Thursday in Sherburn.

Everyone is invited to come out for the Martin County Relay for Life on Saturday at the Martin County Fairgrounds, rural Fairmont. Survivor registration is from 3-6:55 p.m. in the hockey arena. The Bee Kays begin playing music at 4 p.m., with a silent auction to be held 3-6:55 p.m. in the hockey arena. There will be a pork patty or pork chop-on-a-stick supper from 5-7 p.m. with the opening ceremony set to begin 7:30 p.m. on stage. The luminaria ceremony will start around 9:30 p.m. and the closing ceremony will take place at midnight with a lap of silence and a balloon release. Proceeds from the event will go to the American Cancer Society to help in their fight against cancer. So come out on Saturday to celebrate with the survivors and to honor and remember those who have lost their battle with this disease.

The Friendship Club will meet for a picnic lunch at noon Monday at the Sherburn City Park. Please bring a dish to pass. Plates, napkins, utensils and a beverage will be provided although you may want to bring a lawn chair. If it rains, the event will still be held, but it will be inside at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. All are invited to join them for an afternoon of food and friendship.

During these summer months the Martin County West Jr./Sr. High School office is open from 7:30-11:30 a.m. every Wednesday. The office will open once again for normal business hours beginning August 6.

Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre is coming again this summer to Sherburn. The play they will offer is “Alice in Wonderland.” Auditions will be held 1 p.m. July 15 at the Sherburn Theatre. Mark this date on your calendar if you have a child who would like to play a part in this production. Students, ages 7-17, are welcome to participate. Dates for the performance are July 19 and 20.
