Elementary Cross-Country Program

The Junior Cardinals Cross Country program is a seven-week program offered for area youth entering grades 4 to 6. The main goal is to provide a fun and introductory experience to the lifelong sport of distance running. Participants will develop skills to compete in races through practices that emphasize positivity, sportsmanship, and fun. The season begins on Aug. 18 and runs through Oct. 2. The fee is $65 (includes a T-shirt if registered by Aug. 11). A late registration fee of $10 will be added after Aug. 11. We will have one-hour practices two times per week. While the full schedule will not be available until early August, the first week of practice has typically been from 8:30 to 9:30 am and 4 to 5 p.m. thereafter. Location of practice may vary within the community. Bring running shoes and a water bottle. The season also includes: a half-mile race on Aug. 22, running the homecoming football in with the varsity cross country team, and competing in a one-mile race on Oct. 2. Additional race opportunities may become available. In addition to preparing kids to compete in meets, we incorporate a lot of games into our training program, including relays, scavenger hunts and other fun activities. They will also learn some mental strategies and the importance of both the individual and the team. The program will be coached by Neil and Crystal Hanson.
